Today, the French-born Calvet, who lives in Nicaragua, is a painter whose work Miami Juice has been selected as the official poster for the 30th edition of the festival, to be held March 1-10, 2013. “This is primarily a message of hope … go out of the dark and into the light!” Calvet, 46, said about the painting via a press release issued Thursday evening by Miami Dade College, which presents the festival. “The central personage is filled with cinematic references: projectors, stars, cameras, red carpet, outlaws, explosions, etc.”
